Tablet of Microsoft:
Microsoft Corp has finally introduced its own line of tablet computers, marking a major strategic shift for the software giant in its 37-year history. The idea is clearly to take on rival Apple’s iPad and re-invent itself in a fast changing and hyper competitive technology space. Called Surface, the tablet includes a keyboard that doubles as a cover. It runs on the new Windows 8 operating system, and is scheduled to be available for the Christmas shopping season. The new software designed for Surface is the biggest overhaul of Windows in years, and features a new touch-friendly interfaced dubbed "Metro”.
The device comes in two versions. The lighter, thinner version of the Surface tablet aimed at iPad, is built on Nvidia chip designed by ARM Holdings, and will feature Microsoft’s popular office suits applications. It has a 10.6 inch screen and comes in 32GB and 64GB memory sizes. The second is a heavier tablet aimed at taking on lightweight "Ultra Books”, which runs on traditional Intel chips, and comes in 64GB and 128GB models. That will be available about three months after the ARM version. The pricing details are not out yet, but Microsoft said it would be competitive.
